Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) administers the Food Safety Program for Greek Houses and Student Organizations at The University of Alabama. The goal of this program is to provide a full service permitting and inspection program for these areas to ensure Greek Houses and Student Organizations offering food products for sale and/or on-site consumption are operating in accordance with the rules, regulations and guidelines established by the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH). In addition to ADPH rules, regulations and guidelines, this program is intended to encourage the safe handing and preparation of food items to prevent a foodborne illness.
This program is in addition to all other policies, guidelines, registration, procedures and requirements applicable to special and/or social events hosted on-campus by student organization or off-campus when the food is purchased with University funds.
Detailed information about these requirements can be found in Student Social Events – Food Safety Guidelines. Additional guidelines pertaining to bake sales are also available on the Bake Sale Guidelines. For questions about this program, contact Margaret Barrett at 348-5905.
