Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) administers the Food Safety Program for Greek Houses and Student Organizations at The University of Alabama. The goal of this program is to provide a full service permitting and inspection program for these areas to ensure Greek Houses and Student Organizations offering food products for sale and/or on-site consumption are operating in accordance with the rules, regulations and guidelines established by the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH). In addition to ADPH rules, regulations and guidelines, this program is intended to encourage the safe handing and preparation of food items to prevent a foodborne illness.
This program is in addition to all other policies, guidelines, registration, procedures and requirements applicable to special and/or social events hosted on-campus by student organization or off-campus when the food is purchased with University funds.

Food Service Inspections and Permitting
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) administers the Greek/Student Organization food service program. The goals of this program are to provide a full service permitting and inspection program that will ensure safe operation of food service facilities on campus. EHS Personnel who perform inspections are ServSafe certified and trained to conduct compliance evaluations. Food service facilities are permitted by The University, inspected at least each semester by EHS and are held to the same food handling and preparation standards as commercial establishments.
